We are very fortunate in locating book number one of the Bedford Borough Council containing recorded minutes of the Council`s meetings as well as having the opportunity to review on microfilms early issues of the Bedford Gazette.

In reviewing the old yellowed pages we found many references to the formation of a Fire Company and the many problems faced by the Borough Fathers with the citizens of the town and the members of the Fire Company.

A few of the stories we have told here were given to me by members of the Company back in the late 1800`s and early 1900`s. Also, many dates given here may not be available elsewhere. We hope they will be used in the future as references.
