Elected officials, local historians, Scouts and the public gathered on March 6, 2011, at the Bedford County Courthouse for Bedford County Day, a celebration of Bedford County's founding on March 9, 1771 and our history. Austin Burtnett from Bedford Elementary School read the poem, "Bedford Town," Senator John Eichelberger and Commissioner Mike Herline spoke and Representative Dick Hess presented the commissioners with a certificate recognizing March 9 as Bedford County Day. Jamey Clark and Ellen Espenshade sang "The Blue Juniata" and "Jacob's Dream," about the lost Cox children. Dr. Joe Gardner presented "When War Comes to Bedford County: A Workman's View" from the perspective of his great-grandfather, David R. Gardner. Everyone enjoyed the celebration.
