BEDFORD COUNTY DAY
|
|
Elected officials, local historians, Scouts and the public gathered on March 7, 2010, at the Bedford County Courthouse for Bedford County Day, a celebration of Bedford County's founding on March 9, 1771 and our history. Guests filled the commissioners' meeting room. Reverend William Defibaugh provided the invocation and benediction. Joe Gardner, Ph.D., dressed in period attire and portraying a squire of the 18th century, provided a history lesson to all. Special remarks were provided by Senator John Eichelburger, Representative Dick Hess and Commissioners Mike Herline, Steve Howsare and Gary Ebersole. Maria Claycomb read the poem, "Bedford Town." The Joyful Notes sang patriotic music including "The Star-Spangled Banner." Jamey Clark and Ellen Espenshade sang "The Blue Juniata," "Jacob's Dream" (about the lost Cox children), and "O, America." Webelos Pack 4472 lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Sue Moffitt, Vice President of the Bedford County Historical Society welcomed everyone, presented the Bedford County Flag to the Veteran's Office, and provided closing remarks. Boy Scout Troop 4077 raised the Bedford County Flag. Everyone enjoyed the celebration. |
