Some of the tales printed in this book were previously in other books or in newspaper articles. Some were printed many decades ago and are no longer available to the general public. Parts of several articles were based on stories of the late Henry W. Shoemaker, former editor of the Altoona Tribune, whose many books are long out of print. Some were taken from articles that the author himself wrote for the Broad Top Bulletin and for the Bedford - Blair Shopper's Guide. Still others were not previously published at all. You can judge for yourself the credibility of some of these legends.
